The UK Gaming Policy throws SportingBet off

SportingBet, an online gambling company is angry with the British governments decision to restrict gambling regulations.

This decision has cost the company a £10 million charge leaving Andrew McIver, the company's Chief Executive feeling disappointed with the UK gaming policy.

McIver says they need to update their computer systems, however they are having issues figuring out what the requirements are, and if they do not figure this out by September, they will be committing a criminal offence, therefore it is important to determine soon.

SportingBet received a full license in the Channel Islands from the Alderney Gambling Control Commission and as a result, is expected to create 70 new jobs with the move.

Hilton on House Arrest?

Just one day after Paris Hilton was reassigned to hosue arrest, prosecutors asked the court to force her back behind bars.

Judge Michael T. Sauer, the judge how initially sentenced Hilton to 45 day in jail has another conference today to discuss the issue. This hearing was requested by Los Angeles City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo, who would like to see Hilton return to jail for violating her probation.

Sherrif Lee Baca who approved Hilton's reassignment to home arrest defended his decision.

"The problem here is that there is a medical issue and it isn't wise to keep a person in jail with her problem over an extended period of time and let the problem get worse," he told the paper. "In my opinion, justice is being served by the decision to have her serve her time at home."

The L.A. Superior Court did not authorize Hilton's release from jail. Thursday morning, shortly after Hilton was sent home, Delgadillo, who handled Hilton's probation violation case had many words with the Sheriff's Department.

Delgadillo said "had we been provided with the proper notification, we would have opposed the decision on legal grounds."


"If law enforcement officials are to enjoy the respect of those we are charged with protecting, we cannot tolerate a two-tiered jail system where the rich and powerful receive special treatment," Delgadillo concluded. "We must ensure that in our city, in our nation, and under our Constitution, justice remains blind."
