Hope everyone’s Christmas shopping is going well. I’m very thankful that I’m almost done. It’s always a pain going to the mall the last few days before Christmas to find that they do not have the gifts you want! So far I have been pretty lucky and I’ve found a couple great deals, and now I am waiting for a couple other things to hopefully go on sale before Christmas (fingers crossed).
Does anyone have any plans for Christmas? Doing anything exciting? I’m looking forward to spending out with my family and just relaxing! I went to visit my parents last night and my mom was baking all day. Of course I had to taste test everything she made. Tastes so good at the time, but now I’m feeling very full. It’s a great time for baking because you never feel guilty for eating it at Christmas!

Holiday Tips for Dieters

This time of year is bitter/sweet for so many people. Family functions, work parties, holiday cheers, delicious food, and other celebrations are all great until you eat, and drink too much leaving yourself feeling bloated and heavy and even a little tighter in the waistline. Here are a few helpful tips to keep in mind during the holidays to stay on track!
Plan Ahead: It is always good to treat yourself over the holidays. If you do not do this, it can sometimes result in binge eating. Everything is okay if you eat it in proportion. Remember moderation is the key!
Exercise: I know this time of year can be un-motivating for putting on the gym shoes, but a 30 minute walk every other day will help you feel better and will allow you to feel better about the treats you eat. Think of a piece of pumpkin pie as a reward after a little exercise.
Create a strategy: If you are attending a holiday party, have a small snack before you go so you will be less hungry when you arrive and chances are you will not over eat on foods that are high in calories.
Reduce the fat in holiday recipes: There are many recipes out there that are lower in fat, and taste just as delicious! Fresh fruit is a perfect example.
Watch what you drink: Alcohol is high in calories. Choose to drink lighter wines and beers, or use non-alcoholic mixers like water and diet soda instead of regular soda. This will help your calorie intake.
Enjoy yourself: Although food and drinks are a big part of the Christmas season, place a big focus on friends and family.
